Khas Bagh is no more than a ten minute drive from Amer Fort in the farms fringing the city of Jaipur. In a city that has a surfeit of hotels, with accomodations ranging form heritage to homestays, plush palace hotels to corporate and designer options, glam-camps to havelis, Khas Bagh excels as a garden hotel, private and laid back more like a farm house or a country home.
A boutique hotel built on the lines of a haveli, Khas Bagh is striking in the contrasts created between the red sandstone façade and the white of the building, yet spread out with large open terraces, courtyards, verandas. Ransher Singh, a polo player is the owner and host and so a stable of robust polo ponies share the four acre space that Khas Bagh is set on.
The rooms and suites are spread over the ground floor and the first, each large and opening into a corridor or a verandah always with an access to a terrace or a garden. The design is interesting in the mosaic of black and white marble on the floors contrasting or completmenting the colors of the linen, drapes, fixtures and furniture. The ensuite bathrooms are provided with generous shower areas and luxurious amenities. Each suite is air-conditioned with four poster beds, warm and fluffy block-printed duvets, plush couches, a little niche seating by the window, antique tables and dressers, with an ante-room at the entrance with space for your luggage, that helps you enjoy your suite free of clutter.
Khas Bagh has plenty of space for both outdoors by the pool and in the lawns for alfresco dining or just to relax over a drink or two. Inside spaces include a polo-lounge and bar with Ransher’s trophies and photographs from his polo matches. The dining room is a combination of blues and reds, with antique family furniture serving Indian and Rajasthani cuisine, and on request a selection of continental dishes as well.
To stay at Khas Bagh is to be away from the busy-ness of the city, yet Jaipur’s famous sites and shopping areas are just a short drive away. At the retreat interactions with the family including Ransher’s parents and his wife Harsha, a noted journalist with a leading news channel are great moments of conversation and interactions. An inviting swimming pool on the estate is just made for a relaxing day with a tall drink at hand while visits to the elephant camp , horse safaris, riding lessons ( on request ) are some activities on offer. Cycling in the hilly terrain around and yoga on the terraces and gardens are activities which are natural inclusions during your stay here.
