Kanota Ghar, is a Castle, belonging to the Thakurs of Kanota, a small town off the Jaipur-Agra highway about thirty minutes by road from Jaipur. Still the family’s residence, this heritage castle built in 1872, is set in an eight acre estate and offers 23 beautiful rooms and suites that open to the generous gardens and lawns of the estate. Castle Kanota is ideal to be taken over for customised activity based programs like Yoga, Cuisine, Music etc or for groups intending to celebrate a special event. A few years ago a Muesum was painstakingly curated by the family with the help of V&A London to display the exhaustive personal collections and dairies of Thakur Amar Singhji – the grandfather of the current scion of Kanota.
Castle Kanota shot to fame for its impressive facade where a scene for the iconic Hollywood flick "The Best exotic marigold hotel" was shot. An elegant building with influences of Indian, Muslim and Colonial styles of architecture, the main building of the Castle houses the Durbar Hall and several impressive rooms desginated as dining and lounge areas ahas been the setting for many events, weddings and dinners. Castle Kanota being the residence of the family is more personal and lesiurely, with a dining expereince that delves into the family's recipes guarded over centuries. A signature spirit of the Kanota family is 'Chandrahaas' a heady blend of over 80 herbs which is world renowned for its flavours.
The suites at Kanota are within lavish gardens opening to columned verandahs which step down to the lawns and garden paths leading to the pool, temple and the impressive dining and lounge. Large suites with attached bathrooms are furnished in soft pastel shades with walls and ceiling embellished with delicate floral patterns by local Rajasthani artisans.
Every hertiage haveli or palace in Rajasthan has a private collection of the family's art and arms passed down through generations, but the Kanota Museum's archives of manuscripts and documents, dairies and personal belongings of Thakur Amar Singh is probably one of the most extensive collections by an individual while the library is a valuable resource with several first editions, out-of-print books and rare titles.
